Killa (2014)Marathi
Directed by Avinash Arun
Why this film belongs here
Majidi's film never condescends to its child protagonists, and neither does Arun's — both directors trust a kid's interior world to carry an entire film without an adult narrator explaining the stakes. The scene of the boy biking through monsoon-soaked Konkan hills mirrors the urgency of Majidi's shoe-chase: a child solving an adult-sized problem alone. Good entry point for viewers who think "festival cinema" means slow and joyless — both films are tender and propulsive at once. A child's-eye view of an adult-sized problem, solved alone — same trust in young protagonists carrying real emotional weight.
